Recipe: Appetizing Sooji Halwa

Sooji Halwa. Suji ka halwa is a classic Indian semolina pudding made with sugar, ghee and dry fruits. The recipe I have shared is a family heirloom recipe. We have been making this suji halwa recipe for decades during family get togethers, special occasions & festivals.

Sooji Halwa I remember eating bowls of sooji halwa during Navratri! After prayer Halwa is served to devotees as a blessing. This Indian Semolina Pudding is also called as Rava Kesari or Rava Sheera in some parts of the country. You can have Sooji Halwa using 5 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Sooji Halwa

  1. It's 1 cup of sooji fine (semolina flour).
  2. It's 2 tbsps of butter clarified.
  3. It's 2/3 cup of sugar.
  4. It's 2 cups of milk.
  5. Prepare 1 tsp of dry fruit powder (grinded almond, cashew nuts,walnut, cardamom).

Often during Puja or a festive ritual, Suji Halwa is prepared along with Panchamrit in most of the Indian Suji Ka Halwa Recipe - About Suji Ka Halwa Recipe Sooji Halwa Recipe: Semolina and sugar syrup dessert flavored with cardamom and garnished with almonds. Semolina in India is known as Sooji, Suji or Rava. Sooji halwa can also be typically referred to as Kesari bath within the south region and Sheera in the northern area of India.

Sooji Halwa step by step

  1. Take a pan, add sooji and clarified butter.
  2. Roast it until some bubbles are visible in the mixture, it may take approximately 6-7 minutes.
  3. Add sugar, milk and dry fruit powder and mix it well.
  4. Stir it continuously till it absorbs milk and the mixture will not stick the boundary wall of pan* (It takes approximately 15 minutes).
  5. Turn off the stove.
  6. Take a dish and grease it with clarified butter.
  7. Spread the mixture in the dish and smoothen the top surface with bottom of the bowl or a big spoon, if needed grease bottom of the bowl with clarified butter.
  8. Keep it aside for 2 minutes, cut it into square pieces.
  9. Let it cool down for minimum 15 minutes, take pieces out carefully using spatuala.
  10. Note: If milk is absorbed and still mixture doesn’t leave the boundary wall, add 1 tsp clarified butter and then mixture will not stick to the boundary.

Sooji halwa is ready throughout various festive events. Just made the halwa like half an hr ago. In addition to raisons u can also add cocounut. Suji ka halwa that goes well with your puris.
